The Community Advisory Board (CAB) is a representative group of volunteer members who live and work in the Sacramento region. The board advises health system leaders on issues of interest to the broader community with a special focus on access to high-quality health care.

CAB members are dedicated community activists, interested professionals and valued volunteer leaders. Recruitment and selection of CAB members emphasize diverse perspectives; members are drawn from throughout the region to reflect the needs and concerns of various ethnic, economic and cultural groups within the greater Sacramento area. Current members include educators, law enforcement officials, non-profit agency administrators, corporate business professionals, elected official staff members, patient advocates, small business owners and retirees. 

University of California employees or vendors currently engaged in business with the University of California, Davis are not eligible to serve on the CAB.

What We Do

The CAB is an essential partner in achieving the university's four-part mission: excellence in education, leadership in innovative research, state-of-the-art clinical care, and effective community engagement. Through quarterly board meetings, ongoing committee assignments, and ad hoc working groups, CAB members are in regular communication with health system administration. As well-informed advisors, CAB members are routinely solicited for their views and opinions and often influence decisions impacting the broader community.

Serving on the Community Advisory Board

CAB members are recruited every two years, interviewed by a selection committee, and invited to serve a four year term. Each member is expected to serve on at least one CAB committee, with additional opportunities for community outreach and participation throughout the year.

The board is led by an executive committee comprised of the chair, immediate past chair, vice chair, secretary and each of the committee chairs. These volunteer leaders contribute substantially to the work of the board in support of the health system's mission.

Patient Care/Customer Service Committee

The Patient Care/Customer Service Committee reviews and evaluates clinical operations and patient care-related issues. A few of the committee's responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating the performance of clinics and the hospital to ensure quality customer service.
  • Helping to promote culturally and linguistically appropriate care to patients and visitors of the health system.

Planning Committee

The Planning Committee is responsible for addressing future healthcare needs of the community by focusing on the development of the campus' physical infrastructure and the development of a diverse and talented workforce.  A few of the committee's responsibilities include:

  • Helping prepare students for academic success through partnerships between the health system and local middle and high schools. 
  • Examining facility expansions within the context of approved long-range development plan as it contributes to regional planning efforts to promoting smart growth and improved public health outcomes.
  • Developing critical outreach and academic preparation initiatives geared toward increasing participation among students traditionally underrepresented in health professions.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee ensures that the Sacramento region's diverse community is represented on the CAB.  Responsibilities include: 

  • Recruiting and selecting new CAB members.
  • Mentoring and cultivating new CAB members through education and networking opportunities.
  • Examining and developing changes to the bylaws in a manner that best reflects the current needs of the health system.
